USM 62nd CONVOCATION THIRD SESSION: GRADUATES HAVE THE DUTY TO CREATE A BETTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR SOCIETY
USM PENANG, 20 November 2024 – The 3rd Session of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Convocation Ceremony resumes today on Wednesday afternoon.
USM Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Jegathesan Manikavasagam chaired the session, which sees 486 postgraduate students receiving their Doctorate and Masters’ degrees in various fields of study from the research centres and academic schools at USM.
Jegathesan begins by congratulating the students upon the completion of their studies, in which he acknowledges the challenges and trials that the students have had to face.
In addition, he reminded the students not to forget the support that had been given to them by their loved ones and the lecturers while they were undergoing their academic journey.
He also said that, postgraduates who have completed research activities would be aware that a research that is rightfully conducted would involve integrity, ethics and would create a balance in nature, the economy and society.
“What the students have achieved from their studies would pave the way for the future. The findings that they have discovered would also need to be made relevant, sustainable and beneficial to society.”
He then reminded the graduates that by the end of the convocation, the graduates could ‘carve a new pathway’ in their lives.
“Continue to forge connections with or representing their ‘alma mater’ as part of the alumni, and to contribute further to the growth of the people, the nation and the world in the future,” he added.
Jegathesan then ends his speech by wishing all the graduates ‘tahniah, syabas dan selamat maju jaya’ as they continue with another phase in their lives and creating impact in different parts of society.
Others present at the ceremony were the USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed; members of USM Board of Governors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors of USM Branch Campuses, members of the USM Senate, along with other key university officials.
The USM 62nd Convocation Ceremony is currently being organised at the Main Campus, from 19-26 November 2024.
