USM ENGINEERING CAMPUS ROBOTICS CLUB TRIUMPHS AT UROCK 2025

PUTRAJAYA, 7 November 2025 – The Robotics Club of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus has achieved remarkable success by clinching nine awards worth a total of RM9,450 at the prestigious University Robot Competition “Kingdom of Champions” (UROCK 2025) held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) from 5 to 7 November.

USM competed in two main categories Legged Robot Challenge and Rope Climbing Challenge, securing Champion and Runner-up titles in the Legged Robot Race Challenge, as well as Champion and Third Place in the Rope Climbing Robot Challenge.

The team also won Second, Fourth and Fifth Places in the Poster Legged Robot Race Challenge, and First and Fourth Places in the Poster Rope Climbing Robot Challenge, bringing home a total of nine awards to the Engineering Campus.

USM Robotics Club Advisor, Dr. Wan Amir Fuad Wajdi Othman said the team’s success was the result of hard work, creativity, and strong determination demonstrated by all participants throughout their preparation and competition.

“This achievement not only brings pride to the club but also to USM. It proves that our students have the capability to compete at the national level in the field of robotics and technology,” he said.

He added that UROCK 2025 served as an excellent platform to showcase the talents and innovations of engineering students, further strengthening USM’s position as one of the leading institutions in robotics and technology.

“The success highlights the students’ technical skills and creativity, as well as USM’s ongoing commitment to excellence in innovation-driven education and research,” he added.

The USM team comprised second, third and final-year students from the fields of Mechatronic, Electrical, Electronic, Manufacturing, and Mechanical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Nor Rizuan from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Azmi from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

The team also expressed its appreciation to Makers@USM and the Division of Student Development Affairs and Alumni (BHEPA USM) for their sponsorship, logistical support, and assistance in enabling the team’s successful participation.

UROCK 2025 is one of Malaysia’s most prestigious robotics competitions, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

Among the other participating institutions were Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), German-Malaysian Institute (GMI), various polytechnics, and other universities nationwide.

This victory reflects USM’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by advancing Quality Education (SDG 4), driving innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), promoting equal opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to compete nationally (SDG 10), and strengthening national partnerships (SDG 17) through robotics and technology.
