USM CELEBRATES LABOUR DAY 2026 WITH RENEWED COMMITMENT TO DIGNITY, INCLUSION AND SHARED PROGRESS

USM PENANG, 1 May 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) marked International Labour Day by reaffirming its dedication to honouring the value of work as the cornerstone of inclusive and sustainable development, in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The celebration highlighted the strength of USM’s diverse workforce and reinforced the shared responsibility of building an institution rooted in fairness, respect, and forward-thinking values.
From academic staff to administrators, technical teams, and support staff, every contribution plays a vital role in strengthening USM’s mission to create impact and serve society with purpose.
USM embraces an integrated view of work, where intellectual, technical, and manual roles move in synergy to support excellence.
This approach reflects the university’s alignment with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), emphasising dignity, opportunity, and respect across all forms of employment.

Every role is essential in advancing teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.

In his Labour Day message, USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed said: “Every role carries meaning, and every contribution drives shared progress. Together, we build an institution founded on respect, unity, and excellence.”
