INTEGRITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ESSENTIAL IN THE WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT

USM PENANG, 29 May 2025 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues its unwavering commitment to fostering a drug-free campus environment, in alignment with national aspirations and in close collaboration with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).
More recently, USM - through its Legal Office - organised a special talk titled “Corruption-and Drug-Free Workplace”, as part of the initiative under UTEKAD (Universiti Tempat Kerja Bebas Dadah – University as a Drug-Free Workplace).

The event was held as a strategic initiative to enhance awareness and understanding among the university community on the dangers and negative impacts of corruption and drug abuse in a professional environment.
In today’s era of globalisation and rapid technological advancements, integrity, accountability, and mental and physical well-being form the cornerstone of success and sustainability for any organisation, including institutions of higher learning.

As such, this programme serves as an effective platform for instilling noble values, promoting a healthy work ethics, and nurturing a safe and positive workplace culture, free from harmful influences.
This initiative also supports the national agenda of strengthening a culture of integrity and transparency, by embedding anti-corruption values within the public and higher education sectors.
USM remains committed to being a leading example in cultivating a clean, ethical, and responsible working environment for a sustainable national future.

Among the programme objectives are:
1. To increase awareness among campus members regarding issues related to corruption and drug abuse.
2. To provide exposure to relevant laws, penalties, and social consequences associated with such misconduct.
3. To instil values such as integrity and social responsibility among the staff and students.
4. To support the university’s policy in creating a work environment that is healthy, safe, and free of misconduct.
The closing ceremony was officiated by USM Legal Advisor, Dr. Khairul Anuar Che Azmi, and the Director of AADK Penang, Roswati Apin.

The talk is expected to deliver significant benefits to all participants by raising awareness and reinforcing the university community’s commitment to combating corruption and drug-related issues.
A programme such as this is vital in building a more ethical, professional, and resilient campus community.
