Held at Auditorium A, Level 5 in KOMTAR Penang, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 300 attendees, including dignitaries, art aficionados, and proud family members.
This year’s edition focused on the powerful theme of “RudraThandavam,” which drew inspiration from the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva.
A total of 24 captivating performances – 13 solo and 11 group presentations – unfolded on stage, featuring 46 talented participants from various institutions and backgrounds.
Each performance was a unique blend of technique, emotion, and spiritual storytelling, all capturing the essence of ‘Bharatanatyam’.
The competition was adjudicated by a distinguished panel comprising Srimathi Ratna Uma, Srimathi Pavaani Thannimalai, and Nadhirah Rahmat, whose deep knowledge and discerning judgment elevated the standard of the event. Their insightful feedback offered valuable guidance to the emerging talents of the ‘Bharatanatyam’ world.
Gracing the occasion were several esteemed guests, including YB Sanisvara Nethaji Rayer a/l Rajaji; YB Gooi Hsiao Leung; Chairman of Sekretariat Khidmat Masyarakat Thaipusam, Associate Professor Dr. Yuvaraj Ganesan; and a representative of Arun Spices, Valarmathi.
Their presence highlighted the unity between political, academic, corporate, and cultural communities in supporting Malaysia’s vibrant artistic heritage.
The event was officiated by YB Sanisvara. In his officiating statement, he mentioned his amazement with the scale and impressive manner in the production of the event.
“The efforts that USM had placed to ensure that the students not only focus on studies, but also in promoting culture to be sustained is commendable,” he said.
He also came forward to give the students a state level opportunity to showcase their talents in various upcoming programmes.
A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt appreciation extended to our highest-tier sponsors, whose unwavering support made Kalakshetra 6.0 possible.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow, and State Assemblyman of Bukit Tengah, YB Gooi Hsiao Leung, for their exceptional commitment to the cultural arts and their continued encouragement of initiatives that promote heritage and youth engagement,” said PKI Advisor, NR Dhurgaletchimi Ragava.
At the heart of this grand celebration was the tireless effort of the student-led organising team, led by Project Director, Yushitra Kumaravelu.
“We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. Kalakshetra is not just an event – it’s an initiative to preserve and celebrate our heritage through dance,” Yushitra stated in her closing remarks.
As the evening came to a close, the echoes of rhythmic footwork, expressive ‘abhinaya’, and spiritual devotion lingered in the air.
Kalakshetra 6.0 not only showcased the timeless elegance of ‘Bharatanatyam’ but also ignited a renewed passion for cultural preservation and artistic excellence.
