RAPID Penang, in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), launched the T310 stop-and-go bus service today, connecting Jalan Universiti Padang Kawad USM to Bukit Jambul and Queensbay Mall.

Rapid Bus northern region head Ahmad Shabuddin Abdullah highlighted that the service is designed to encourage public transport utilisation among Penangites, especially students.

“The trial route, launched on May 2 this year, will continue for three months until July 31, with fares ranging from RM0.90 to RM2.10.

“Covering almost 15km and boasting 35 stops, the service operates every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during non-peak hours, from 6am to 10.30pm daily.

“It is worth noting that popular destinations for USM students, such as Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, Bukit Jambul Complex, and Queensbay Mall, are conveniently covered by this new route.

“Therefore, this special route provides added convenience for students, USM residents, and locals, potentially reducing car dependency in the area,” he said at the launching ceremony at USM, today.

Also present were USM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Mohamed, and other esteemed dignitaries.

Ahmad Shabuddin also voiced his optimism that this initiative would herald a new chapter in public transportation services in Penang.

“Three Rapid Penang T310 buses will cater to about 18,000 USM students living in the vicinity, striving to provide comprehensive benefits for all.

“Moreover, beyond students, other public transport users are encouraged to sign up for the MY50 Mutiara Pass, offering unlimited travel for 30 days at just RM10.

Additionally, individuals with disabled status (OKU) can take advantage of the ‘Smile’ Disabled Pass for RM5,” he added.
