USM REACHES OUT TO 429 FINAL SCREENING CANDIDATES FOR SISWA SULUNG THROUGH LAPANGAN SISWA SULUNG 2026

PENANG · 2 September 2026

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) reaffirmed its commitment to the holistic development and welfare of students through the Lapangan Siswa Sulung USM 2026 initiative, which was conducted from 18 August to 1 September 2026.

The programme brought together 26 panel members who visited 13 states and the Federal Territory to meet and support 429 candidates shortlisted for the Siswa Sulung category nationwide.

More than a series of visits, Lapangan Siswa Sulung served as a hands‑on outreach effort: listening to students, understanding their realities, and identifying challenges in areas such as welfare, finances, academics, learning environment, and personal growth.

The initiative also gave USM closer insight into student experiences and highlighted areas where support can be strengthened to help them succeed in their studies.

The identification and verification process for Siswa Sulung was carried out in stages, with panel evaluators contacting eligible students for confirmation. Offer letters will be issued to successful candidates ahead of their enrollment at USM.

Siswa Sulung students—often the first in their families to enter university—are a priority in USM’s student development agenda.

This reflects the university’s commitment to building an inclusive higher education ecosystem that is caring, supportive, and focused on student success regardless of background.

USM will continue to strengthen its engagement with students through approaches that are closer, more responsive, and aligned with their real needs.
