PENANG, 12 August 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has been selected to organise the 3rd Research Officers National Symposium (ReONS 2026) this year, with “Frontiers of Research: Connecting Minds, Creating Impact” as the theme.
ReONS was first held in 2022 at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and subsequently at Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2024.
This symposium is a national scientific platform that brings together Research Officers from public universities and research institutions across the country to share expertise, experiences, and research outcomes in various fields of Science and Technology as well as non-Science and Technology research.
The inauguration ceremony of ReONS 2026 was officiated by USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Habibah A. Wahab at Auditorium Murad Mohd Noor, Sains@USM.
According to her, based on the discussions and scientific presentations that were held, participants had the opportunity to explore new approaches that prioritised innovation, in addition to focusing on efforts to translate theoretical frameworks into tangible impacts for society.
“This symposium aligns with the USM APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence) status, which serves as a crucial platform for Research Officers, Science Officers, and academic professionals to share experiences and cutting-edge research findings,” she said.
In addition, the ReONS organising committee also provided Travel Grants to five selected recipients to support the mobility and professional development of Research Officers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). This initiative has opened up more opportunities for learning and collaboration as well as in fostering new ideas.
Certificates of appreciation were then presented to the exhibitors during the ceremony. The “Gold Category,” was led by Hi-tech Instruments Sdn. Bhd., and the “Silver Category,” was given to Inno Lab Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Crest Systems (M) Sdn. Bhd., Nanorian Technologies Sdn. Bhd. and Quasi-S Sdn. Bhd.
The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of an award to the winner of the USM Research Officers Association Logo Design Competition, Ms. Sofiyatul Akmal Salim.
The highest appreciation is extended to the Malaysian Research Officers Association (MROS), the Organising Committee, and all the organisations that were involved, not forgetting the respective sponsors and contributors.
It is hoped that the organisation of the 3rd Research Officers National Symposium (ReONS 2026) would serve as a medium for meaningful idea exchange and a birthplace for new collaborations for the development of research that will benefit society and nation.
