Inaugural INFORMM Mobility Programme Enters Final Week

USM PENANG, 13 August 2026 - The inaugural INFORMM Mobility Programme, organised by the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has entered its final week after beginning on 20 July 2026.

Throughout the month-long programme, participants have gained exposure to various areas of molecular medicine while experiencing the research and learning environment at INFORMM.

A key component of the programme was the Early Scientist Exploration (ESE) sessions held during Weeks 3 and 4, where participants worked in small groups on hands-on laboratory projects under the supervision of INFORMM academics.

The projects introduced participants to research areas including antibody production, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), CRISPR genome editing, cancer cell culture, natural product bioactivity and microbial exploration, providing valuable experience in contemporary molecular medicine research.

Beyond the laboratory, participants were also introduced to Malaysia’s cultural diversity through activities such as batik canting, sepak raga and traditional Malay dance, as well as visits to the Pinang Peranakan Mansion and Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah, USM.

They also attended a Malay language and culture session and explored several of Penang’s well-known attractions, including George Town, Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si Temple. These experiences provided opportunities for cultural exchange while fostering friendships and meaningful connections among participants.

Through the programme, INFORMM hopes to strengthen its partnerships with collaborating institutions in China and lay the foundation for future academic, research and student exchange collaborations.
