HELWA STRENGTHENS BONDS, UNITES NEW USM PUSAT ISLAM COMMITTEE MEMBERS

USM, PENANG · 20 August 2026

Members of the Women’s Affairs Committee (HELWA) of the Islamic Centre of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) for the 2025–2027 term were brought together through the HELWA Bonding Programme, which served as a platform to strengthen ukhuwwah (friendship and support), foster camaraderie and enhance teamwork among the newly appointed committee members.

Held at the Discussion Hall, USM Islamic Centre, the programme brought together HELWA committee members in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere through various activities, including an introductory session, fun games, entertainment, discussions and exchanging gifts.

Chairperson of HELWA, Islamic Centre USM, Nor Fadhilah Wahab, said the programme was organised to provide an opportunity for all newly-appointed committee members to get to know one another better while building closer relationships.

“Programmes such as this are important in strengthening ukhuwwah among members and fostering greater understanding and compatibility within the committee. “When we get to know and understand one another, we can work together more effectively, enabling all plans and responsibilities entrusted to us to be carried out more smoothly,” she said.

She added that the HELWA committee members are also expected to develop a strong sense of togetherness through the programme in carrying out various programmes and activities in the future. This includes HELWA committees at the USM branch campuses, enabling all parties to unite in advancing the mission and vision in line with the current needs of the respective campuses.

In addition to the planned activities, a gift exchange session was also held, with each committee member bringing a gift worth RM20 as a gesture of appreciation and to further enliven the programme. HELWA also encouraged participants to bring potluck dishes to add to the festive atmosphere, while providing an informal setting for interaction and the exchange of views.

For its upcoming programmes, HELWA plans to organise an initiative involving all women at the Main Campus, similar to programmes previously organised by the HELWA committees at the USM branch campuses. Known as Tautan Kasih, the programme will bring together women from across the Main Campus in a relaxed setting, serving as a platform for introductions and fostering ukhuwwah among women on campus.
