EMPOWERING FUTURE TALENT: IJMC CAREER COACH 2023 UNVEILS PATHWAYS IN CONSTRUCTION EXCELLENCE

USM PENANG, 24 November 2023 – ‘The Drum’ at the School of Housing, Building and Planning (HBP) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently came alive with the inaugural of IJMC Career Coach 2023 event, marking a significant collaboration between HBP and IJM Construction Sdn. Bhd.

This partnership establishes the foundation for future programmes aimed at enriching the academic experience for students.
 
The IJMC Career Coach 2023 initiative serves as a unique platform, providing students with invaluable insights and exposure drawn from the wealth of experience possessed by leaders and professionals in the construction and consulting industries.
 
The primary objective of the programme is to inspire and foster students’ interest in their respective fields of study.

The event featured four distinguished speakers, each offering a unique perspective from diverse professional backgrounds.
 
Notably, three of the speakers were esteemed HBP alumni, namely;
1. Mohd Zuljazmi Ismail - Assistant Manager of IJM Land Berhad; 
2. Sr. Andy Ng Ai Hua - Co-Founder of Unitech QS Consultancy Sdn. Bhd.; and 
3. Muhammad Asyraf Mohamad Radzi - Construction Manager of IJM Construction Sdn. Bhd. 
 
Adding an international flair into the panel of the forum was the Project Director of CHT Architect, Ar. Anthea Chen, moderated by HBP Senior Lecturer, Dr. Zul Zakiyuddin, ensuring a seamless flow of discussions.
 
The programme drew active participation from a total of 105 students, representing diverse disciplines such as architecture, building engineering technology, construction project management, interior architecture, quantity surveying, and urban regional planning.
 
The inclusion of speakers with backgrounds in land development, design, quantity surveying, and construction highlighted the holistic impact of the programme on students, offering a well-rounded perspective on the industry. 
 
USM Dean of HBP, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rodzi Ismail was present at the officiating ceremony.

Mohd Rodzi in his officiating address articulated his optimism for the students, emphasising the potential for them to glean profound insight and shape their career trajectories. 
 
“The unanimous sentiment among the students was one of immense satisfaction, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn from a lineup of experts that included both HBP alumni and distinguished international speakers,” said Mohd Rodzi.
 
Meanwhile, IJMC Career Coach 2023 Project Director, Harith Aiman Abdul Hajis in his remarks expressed his sincere gratitude, acknowledged the invaluable collaboration with HBP and extended a heartfelt thank you for the generous provision of facilities by the school. 
 
A standout moment occurred when Andy extended a job offer to the students, underscoring his confidence in the capabilities of USM HBP graduates.
 
“As an alumnus, I could recognise the excellence instilled in USM HBP students by their lecturers across various fields of expertise. 
 
“I believed that this unexpected job offer would further exemplified the tangible benefits and real-world connections that the IJMC Career Coach 2023 programme has brought to the students, solidifying its success as a catalyst for their future success in the construction industry,” he said.
