PENANG, 30 May 2019 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) alumni member and former Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak has been chosen to receive the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” from Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
A source from the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia stated that the decoration will be conferred to Dzulkifli, who is currently Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), by the Government of Japan at a date to be determined later.
The recognition is given for his outstanding contributions towards promoting academic exchange between Japan and Malaysia, in particular during his tenure as the Vice- Chancellor of USM between 2000 and 2011.
The order is one of the two prestigious awards to be conferred in Spring 2019 upon foreign (Malaysian) national dignitaries who have made significant contributions towards strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.
Dzulkifli expresses his deep gratitude to the Japanese government for being selected as the recipient, and hopes to continue doing more under the renewed Look East Policy.
