EDUCATION D-G SHARED VIEWS ON CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION WITH USM COMMUNITY
USM, PENANG, 22 April 2018 – The Director-General of Education Malaysia (KPPM), Datuk Dr. Amin Senin recently delivered a lecture on the current challenges and direction of the nation’s education system to an audience comprised mostly of educators, education practitioners and students at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
He was invited to USM as part of the National Public Lecture Series, where he talked on the topic ‘Mengembalikan Roh Perguruan ke Landasan Hakiki’ (Putting the Desire for Teaching Back on Track), especially to those who aspire to become teachers from the USM School of Educational Studies.
Amin, who shared his experiences in managing changes and challenges in the education system, is a USM alumnus (B.Sc.Ed [Hons]) and has an extensive experience in the field of educational training and leadership.
He has been directly involved in the Review of the National Education System and programmes relating to the Government Transformation Plan (GTP 2.0), as well as in managing the National Dialogue on Education 2012 programme.
The Malaysian Educational Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025 is among the results of his involvement together with the committee members of the Ministry of Education Malaysia and other relevant agencies, in strengthening the field of education to be on par with those of the developed countries.
Hailing from Sandakan in Sabah, he is also a dedicated writer and has produced various books and publications, among others on learning and educational leadership, as well as topics on professional development in teaching within the local and global contexts.
Also present at the programme were the USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah representing the USM Vice-Chancellor; Director of Penang State Department of Education, Tuan Mohd Jamil Mohamed and Dean, USM School of Educational Studies, Professor Dr. Hairul Nizam Ismail.
