USM, PENANG, 18 January 2018 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today received a courtesy visit from the Vice-Rector of Saint-Louis University (Université Saint-Louis) in Brussels, Belgium to discuss on potential collaborations between the two universities.
The visit was initiated by Dr. Muhizam Mustafa, Director of USM International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC) and was held at the Conference Room of the USM School of Languages, Literacies and Translation. It was chaired by the Dean, Professor Dr. Tengku Sepora Tengku Mahadi, who received the visitors together with the academics and university officials.
Professor Bertrand Hamaide, the Vice-Rector of Saint-Louis University said that it was truly meaningful to be able to meet and discuss about future areas of collaborations between the two institutions.
Joining in the meeting were the Director of Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KANITA), Prof. Dr. Noraida Endut; Deputy Dean (Academics, Students and Alumni), School of Social Sciences, Assoc Prof. Dr. Azrina Husin; Deputy Dean of the School of Humanities (Research, Postgraduate and Network), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salasiah Che Lah; Deputy Dean (Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs) of the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation, Dr. Ilangko Subramaniam; along with other officials.
Hamaide was given an overview on the respective USM Academic Schools and the university, and who in return provided a brief description of Saint-Louis University.
A discussion was then held to identify potential areas for collaboration, which would benefit both institutions, especially in areas of research and staff and student mobility.
Hamaide also said that such moves would definitely bring benefits to both institutions in terms of international relations and recognition.
Saint-Louis University is a state-funded university that is located in Brussels, Belgium and which was established in 1858. It offers courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences through its five faculties and institutes.
