USM, PENANG, August 2017 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Industrial Technology (PPTI), in collaboration with the USM Division of Industry and Community Network (BJIM) as well as the Penang Department of Environment (DOE) recently organised a “Triple Helix Academia-Industry–Government: Environmental Awareness Training" to promote environmental awareness among the industries in Penang.

The USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, when officiating the programme said, being a research university, USM is the best venue to conduct this kind of programme.

"We believe that knowledge shared by the university, either in teaching or research, would be useful to the industry and community. Hopefully this collaboration will continue to another level," said Rahman.

The programme combined the three helical elements; university, government and the industry, with presentations conducted by three experts from their respective fields. A total of 30 representatives from various companies in Penang participated in this one-day programme held here on 3 August.

This programme was aimed at sharing the knowledge on the importance of having environmental awareness, while promoting and strengthening the network of cooperation between the university, industry and government agencies.

Other than having research exhibitions, the organisers have also arranged for visits to laboratories which cater to a wide range of analysis work pertaining to environmental studies.

Also present at the programme were the Dean of the School of Industrial Technology, Professor Dr. Azhar Mat Easa; Deputy Dean (Graduate, Research and Networking), Professor Dr. Norli Ismail; Deputy Dean (Academics, Students and Alumni), Associate Professor Dr. Rosma Ahmad and Assistant Director of the Penang Department of Environment, Suffian Julmohamad.
