USM, PENANG, 12 April 2017 – USM Jazz Band and Dewan Budaya once again proudly present International Jazz Day @ USM 2017 this coming 14 and 15 April 2017 at Dewan Budaya Auditorium, USM Penang!

The program includes a concert and 3 workshop sessions conducted by our own Malaysian renowned musicians. All workshops are free admission while concert tickets are sold at RM20 for non-students and RM15 for students.

The workshops will be held on 14 April 2017 (Friday) and 15 April 2017 (Saturday). The first workshop will be conducted by Mr. Michael Veerapen from 10am – 12pm. Mr. Michael Veerapen is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and a USM Music master’s degree graduate. The Seremban-born Veerapen is credited with promoting the appreciation of jazz and contemporary music in Malaysia, and helped form the regionally-renowned fusion funk band Asia Beat. For this workshop, he will be sharing about techniques on effective jazz improvisation.

The second workshop will be held on the same day from 3pm to 5pm. It will be conducted by Malaysian renowned composer, Mr. Azmeer, to talk about the local music industry and how to market oneself as a musician.

Lastly there will be a sharing session from guests and USM alumni from 10am to 12pm on 15 April.

Do not miss our performance night in Dewan Budaya Auditorium, where the UPSI Big Band and USM Mini Big Band will be LIVE on stage playing jazz music. There will also be an opening performance by members of the strings section and the Voice-over-voices section of the USM Jazz Band.
