USM, PENANG, 30 August 2016 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman is urging the newly-enrolled students for the academic session 2016/2017 to seize the opportunity to obtain the newly-introduced APEX Scholar certificate.

"This certificate would be awarded to the students after having fulfilled several criteria which include academics, leadership and volunteerism, being an addition to the degree that all students would receive upon graduation," he said at the dinner with the students residing at ‘Desasiswa Tekun’.

"I hope that the students would be able to balance their focus between academics and also co-curriculum and not merely to seek for MyCSD points and forgetting their studies," added the USM Vice-Chancellor.

Meanwhile, the Penggawa of ‘Desasiswa Tekun’ who hosted the dinner, Dr. Nazarudin Zainon gave a briefing on the rules and regulations at the ‘desasiswa’, including the ‘No Smoking’ reminder erected throughout USM.

Also present was the Vice-Chancellor’s wife, Datin Noraizan Jamaludin and the administration officials of the ‘desasiswa’ (students’ residence).
