USM, PENANG, 19 July 2016 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hopes to establish collaborations with Chiang Mai University (CMU) Thailand, following the visit by representatives from CMU to USM today.

The USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal welcomed the representatives from CMU, comprising the Vice Dean, Dr. Pichayalak Pichayakul and the Assistant Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Pradthana Jaipong in pursuing further collaborations to promote education and academic exchange at different levels between the two universities.

“USM and CMU would be able to explore future collaborations in various areas such as engineering and computer science, humanities and social sciences, and other fields of study,” said Ahmad Shukri.

He added that, there are also potentials for collaborations in student exchange, field-work exchange, on internship opportunities and customised programmes.

Following a video presentation of the International College (IC) at CMU which handles undergraduate programmes, Pichayalak said that CMU is opening its doors further in its education prospects and sees USM as a potential partner of repute for collaborations in many different areas of higher education.

“We have sent three students to USM who have completed their studies at the School of Computer Sciences, and the feedback that we received from them about USM was very encouraging,” she said.

Also present to meet and hold discussions with the CMU representatives were the Director of USM International Mobility and Career Centre (IMCC), Dr. Muhizam Mustafa and Deputy Director, Dr. Mohd Hafizal Mohd Isa; Assistant Registrar of IMCC, Ms. Eliza Yasmin Dahlan, along with the Dean and representatives from the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (PPBLT), Graduate School of Business (GSB), School of Social Sciences (PPSK), School of the Arts (PPS), School of Communication (PPK) and School of Computer Sciences.
