USM GARNERS 1 GOLD, 1 SILVER AND A SPECIAL AWARD AT KIWIE 2016
KOREA, June 2016 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has once again excelled at the global stage through its female academicians, by obtaining 1 gold, 1 silver and also a special award from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) at the Korea International Women's Invention Exposition (KIWIE 2016).
Professor Dr. Fauziah Ahmad from the School of Civil Engineering received a Gold Medal and a Special Award from KIPO with her invention, the '8Pf Mat'.
Next is Professor Dr. Munirah Ghazali from the School of Educational Studies, receiving a Silver Medal with her innovation product, 'Teachers Capacity-Building in Sustainability Science Module' while Associate Professor Dr. Fatimah De'nan from the School of Civil Engineering, was awarded a Silver Medal for her invention, the 'Triangular Web Profile Steel Section'.
In all, the Malaysian delegates comprising those from USM, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) took home one Special Award, 2 Gold Medals and 6 Silver Medals at KIWIE 2016.
The KIWIE 2016 exposition was hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and was organised by the Korea Women Inventors Association (KWIA), held from 16-19 June 2016.
KIWIE brings together over 500 women and SMEs (owned by women) from more than 30 countries to share information and experience, to learn about new technological trends, and to promote their current innovations.
