USM, PENANG, 16 June 2016 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is going to expand collaborations with Princess of Naradhiwas University Thailand (PNU), as a result of the visit by the delegates from PNU to USM today.

The Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman welcomed the 12-member delegation, led by PNU President, Assistant Professor Dr. Rossukon Sangmanee in pursuing further collaborations to promote education and academic exchange at different levels between the two universities, with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) already signed between USM and PNU in 2015.

“Through this collaboration, USM and PNU would be able to explore various possibilities for collaboration in areas such as business and management, humanities and social sciences, and Islamic-related fields of study,” said Omar.

He added, there are also potentials for collaborations in student exchange, field-work exchange, on customised programmes and offshore programmes.

Meanwhile, Rossukon said that PNU is going to internationalise its education prospects and sees USM as a potential partner for collaborations in areas such as education and teacher-training, among others.

“We have started sending 60 students to USM to undergo a month-long Intensive English Programme (IEP) conducted by the USM School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (PPBLT), and we are very happy to hear that the students are doing fine,” she said.

Also present to meet and hold discussions with the delegates were the USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal; Dean of PPBLT, Professor Dr. Tengku Sepora Tengku Mahadi; Dean of Graduate School of Business (GSB), Professor Dr. Azlan Amran; Dean of School of Humanities, Professor Dr. Narimah Samat; Dean of School of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Azlinda Azman, Deputy Dean of School of Management, Dr. Amirul Shah Md. Shahbudin and Director of International Mobility and Career Centre (IMCC), Dr. Muhizam Mustafa.
