USM, PENANG, 12 June 2016 – 14 Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) alumni members with a background in Fine Arts recently returned to the campus to hold the ‘Seni Spektrum’ exhibition and also organised the Ex-USM Fine Art 1999-2001 Reunion at the Muzium dan Galeri Tuanku Fauziah (MGTF) in USM.

According to the Director of Centre for Alumni Liaison (PPA) USM, Associate Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Jaafar Wan Yahaya who also served as the advisor for the programme, the ‘Seni Spektrum’ exhibition is one of the efforts by the university to be more directly involved in its alumni affairs and to establish closer relations between the alumni and alma mater.

“USM via PPA is ready to assist its alumni by providing facilities such as transportation, accommodation as well as labour force in organising their activities,” added Wan Jaafar.

Former Dean of USM School of the Arts (PPS), Associate Professor A. Rahman Mohamed who launched the event, congratulated all the alumni who were involved directly or indirectly for their initiatives in organising the exhibition.

A. Rahman also took the opportunity at the event to share his personal experiences being the Dean and lecturing at USM.

Coordinator for the event, Dr. Husaini Yaacob then expressed his gratefulness to the Centre for Alumni Liaison, School of the Arts and MGTF for their cooperation towards ensuring the success of the event this year.

“Other than gathering the existing talents in arts, such event could also provide the opportunity to the alumni members to return to the campus after having left it for quite some time and to produce artworks of high standards,” said Husaini who also lectures and an alumnus of PPS graduated in 2001.

Altogether, 41 works are exhibited by the USM alumni who came from all over Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak.

Their artwork is on displayed and opens to the USM community and the public beginning 3rd June until 17th June at MGTF at no charge.
