CELEBRATING GLOBAL DIVERSITY: USM HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL FIESTA 2025
USM PENANG, 18 December 2025 – The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) International Office (IO), together with USM Buddies, recently organised the International Cultural Fiesta (ICF) 2025 at the main campus.

This vibrant full-day event was held on 11 December from morning until night, with the morning session taking place at Dataran Merah, followed by the night session at the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP).

ICF is an annual celebration at USM that brings together international and local students, featuring a wide range of attractions such as cultural booths and stage performances that showcase diverse traditions from around the world.

According to the Director of USM International Office, Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong, international students serve as a microcosm of global cultures, providing opportunities for social interaction, cultural exposure, and recognition of the various international communities present within the campus setting.
“The event also highlights the importance of cultural understanding among students from different nations, which plays a vital role in supporting the internationalisation agenda of the university,” he added.
One of the main highlights of the event was the Malay Language Singing Performance by our international students, which aimed to promote cultural appreciation, global diversity, and sustainability through language and music.
Since 2002, USM Buddies has continuously supported international students in adapting to campus life while fostering intercultural understanding, global engagement, and inclusivity across USM’s diverse community.
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is home to a vibrant international community of more than 4,000 students representing over 80 countries. The largest groups hail from China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Middle Eastern nations, and European exchange partners.
These students are enrolled across undergraduate, postgraduate, and mobility programmes, contributing to USM’s diverse and globally connected campus environment.
