BREAKING NEW GROUND IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY: MELODY CHEE HUI NI BECOMES FIRST GRADUAND OF USM-UPSI INTEGRATED DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAMME

USM PENANG, 25 November 2025 – The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Medical Sciences proudly announces a historic milestone as Melody Chee Hui Ni emerges as the first graduand of the USM-UPSI Integrated Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) programme, a pioneering pathway that emphasises the scientist-practitioner model in clinical training.

With more than five years of distinguished service as a Registered Clinical Psychologist, Melody has contributed extensively across both public hospitals and private practice.

Her expertise spans evidence-based therapies, comprehensive psychological assessments, clinical supervision, and multidisciplinary collaboration, making her a trusted figure in Malaysia’s growing mental health landscape.

Currently practicing at Dr. Seed Specialist Clinic, Melody focuses on neurodevelopmental and psychological assessments while delivering holistic treatment planning.

Her clinical work covers a wide spectrum of conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, anxiety, depression, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders.

She employs interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and parent management training, tailored for both individual and group settings.

Beyond clinical practice, Melody is deeply committed to academia. She supervises Master’s trainees at University of Cyberjaya and USM, nurturing the next generation of psychologists.

Her leadership and supervision skills were honed during her doctoral internship, further solidifying her role as a mentor in the field.

Her research reflects her passion for advancing knowledge in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Melody’s doctoral dissertation explored emotion recognition in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, contributing valuable insights to the scientific community.

This landmark achievement not only underscores Melody’s dedication but also highlights the rigorous training and vision of the USM-UPSI programme.

With her extensive doctorate training, Melody is poised to take on senior clinical roles in specialised psychological services, particularly for children and adolescents.
