Canon partners with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to enhance education through digitalisation and nurture local creative talents.

Canon Marketing Malaysia, a global leader in imaging solutions, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have entered a strategic partnership to elevate education through digitalisation and foster local creative talents.

The collaboration, solidified through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), designates Canon as the Official Imaging & Smart Tech Partner of USM for a three-year term.

Together, they aim to digitally transform the university, in line with the Ministry of Higher Education’s vision for a digitally empowered higher education ecosystem.

This partnership underscores Canon’s commitment to “Imaging for Good” and USM’s goal of “Transforming Higher Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”

Canon and USM’s shared vision for sustainable education

Canon’s President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, Shunji Yoshikai, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing Canon’s dedication to driving innovation and supporting education initiatives.

Through this partnership, Canon seeks to empower USM students with enhanced skills and exposure to the corporate world in the digital age.

The alliance aligns with Canon’s “Kyosei” philosophy of working together for the common good and complements USM’s global recognition in the Times Higher Education Global Impact Rankings (THE-GIR), where it stands out as the top-ranked Asian university in sustainable development.

The Memorandum of Agreement encompasses various collaborative aspects, including workshops, sponsorships, and creating opportunities for USM students. USM’s dedication to digital transformation is further reinforced by its fourth-place ranking globally in THE-GIR.

Canon’s suite of input and output imaging products will play a key role in USM’s digital transformation journey, enhancing efficiency and empowering its educational ecosystem.

The MoA – Comprehensive collaboration for digital transformation

Canon’s contribution extends to quarterly photography and videography workshops for USM students and staff, boosting their skills and knowledge in the field.

To nurture creative talents, Canon will sponsor the Festival Filem Anak Muda (FFAM) organized by Sekretariat Protégé USM and Dewan Budaya USM, and also loan cameras to support students’ creative pursuits.

Moreover, Canon’s industry experts will participate in career fairs, talks, and on-campus roadshows, providing USM students with valuable industry exposure and career opportunities. USM will, in turn, recommend Canon as its preferential placement and internship partner, further enhancing students’ access to skill development and career prospects.

Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor of USM, expressed delight in having Canon as the Official Imaging and Smart Tech Partner.

He highlighted the collaboration’s potential to elevate students’ learning experiences and equip them with essential skills and knowledge for success in a digital world.

By integrating industry expertise with academic knowledge, the partnership aims to nurture future-ready graduates who can effectively contribute to the creative and digital sectors. This collaboration marks a significant step towards building a sustainable and future-ready education ecosystem at USM.

With Canon’s industry expertise and USM’s academic excellence combined, this collaboration is poised to shape a bright future for education and empower the next generation of creative talents.
