GEORGE TOWN: Cleaner Hor Boon Chung has done it again, turning up for his vaccination with a plastic bag over his head and spreading kindness and cheer to frontliners on duty.
The 63-year-old again returned to the vaccination centre (PPV) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here today to complete his vaccination, with his unusual face shield, twice the cuteness and an act of kindness for volunteers on duty.
According to a Facebook post by USM, the elderly man came to complete his vaccination today, reminding the people of an obvious truth - "Wang boleh cari, tapi nyawa tiada ganti" (Money can be sought, but life is irreplaceable).
Hor made headlines not too long ago, on July 8, when he first walked into the USM PPV wearing a plastic bag over his head. His behaviour attracted whispers and laughter from the public.
However, before he left, he handed over a thick wad of money to the staff, expressing his wish for them to use the money to buy lunch for the frontliners at the PPV as they had been working hard.
According to the FB post, when Hor came to complete his vaccination today, he refused any special treatment and priority lane for the drive-through.
Instead, he made his way to registration, again ignoring waves of cynical looks from the people.
"Just before the jab, he blindfolded his eyes and said - 'Saya takut jarum' (I'm scared of needles). Those on duty burst into laughter. That's one dose of happiness he gave. Once done, he took a cheerful walk to an official and handed a jar containing cash of what seems almost triple than the amount before," the post read.
"We explained that we won't be able to accept his offering and after what seems to be a tug-of-war and debate, he said over 4,000 frontliners have been infected by Covid-19.
"They have been very brave and I'm thankful to have brave men and women helping to protect the country. They put their lives at stake. Please buy them another lunch as we can't afford to have them sick. The country needs them more than ever," said Hor.
"Some of us broke into tears. We decided not only to mask him up but also to 'decorate' him as our hero."
Hor said many had questioned his method of masking up but said this was his way to educate people to wear their masks and help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
"You don't have to go to extremes. Just wear your mask properly for the time being and soon after we can hopefully be mask-free once again," Hor said before he crept back into the taxi, acknowledging that he had been repeatedly advised to remove the plastic bag over his head.
