USM SPEARHEADS ELECTRIC MOBILITY INITIATIVE IN MALAYSIA WITH 50 E-BIKES
NIBONG TEBAL, 7 January 2024 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the School of Mechanical Engineering (SoME), recently signed a collaboration and donation agreement with Ni Hsin EV Tech; Focus Applied Technologies Sdn. Bhd., and Dongguan Tailing EV to promote electric mobility.
The main objective of this research collaboration is to demonstrate the viability of existing electric two-wheelers to perform significant useful work in the Malaysian transport environment under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Electric Mobility Study to be conducted in 2023 - 2024.
USM is confident that this collaboration can lead to the University being a strategic partner in this initiative, as it also believes in promoting sustainable solutions.
The 50 units of EBixon Bold motorcycles were donated by Dongguan Tailing EV to various selected end-users for a period of one year, during which time USM will conduct vehicle testing, tracking, and data logging.
The motorcycles were handed over by Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director, Khoo Chee Kong, to USM Vice-Chancellor representative, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafiei, in a simple handover ceremony at Blackbixon Café, Kuala Lumpur.
This research study is part of a project led by researchers from the USM School of Mechanical Engineering, including Associate Professor Dr. Teoh Yew Heng, with the invaluable support of Associate Professor Dr. Mohamad Yusof Idroas and Dr. Yu Kok Hwa for a period of 12 months.
This initiative by USM aligns with Malaysia's commitment to low-carbon initiatives and addresses the pressing issue of climate change, showcasing the university's dedication to driving transformative change in the global landscape of electric mobility.
As USM continues to lead in progressive technologies and policies, this project sets a precedent for transformative change and positions the university as a key player in the advancement of sustainable transportation solutions.
Also present as witnesses were Dr. Horizon Gitano, CTO of Focus Applied Technologies and a consultant to the UNEP, and other Ni Hsin Group's Board of Directors, including Dato’ Norhaidi Chen Dan, Sofiyan Yahya, and Rizvi Abdul Halim.
