ICF2023: BRIDGING CULTURES AND CELEBRATING DIVERSITY
USM PENANG, 15 December 2023 - The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC) has successfully organised the International Cultural Fiesta (ICF) 2023 recently, which proved to be a vibrant and immersive experience, fostering cultural exchange, cross-cultural understanding, and an appreciation for diverse traditions.
This year’s theme was inspired by ‘Squid Game: Back to the Playground’, aimed at bridging the gap between local and international students. It sought to facilitate a deeper understanding of the cultures of international students at USM as part of the university's ‘Internationalisation@Home’ agenda.
By engaging in interactive cultural booths and witnessing captivating performances, attendees had the chance to develop a deeper understanding of various cultures and to forge lasting connections with fellow students from around the globe.
Held at Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP) USM, the event attracted around 2,500 students, underscoring its success in uniting people, transcending boundaries, and celebrating the richness of global diversity.
The event was divided into two sessions: the cultural booths session in the morning and the gala night session.
16 ‘countries’ were involved in the cultural promotion exercise, and approximately 150 exchange students participated alongside 59 buddies.
Present at the event was the IMCC Director, Associate Professor Dr. Muhizam Mustafa; IMCC Deputy Director (International Mobility), Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Hafizal Mohd Isa; IMCC Deputy Director (Global Engagement & Network), Dr. Syaheerah Lebai Lutfi; Pakistan High Commission, Second Secretary, Muhammad Ameer Hassaan, representing the Pakistan Embassy; Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery, Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury representing the Bangladesh Embassy, and principal officers of USM.
