USM PENANG, 14 October 2023 – As means to acknowledge the dedication, time, passion, and assistance provided by the Green Ambassador (GA) volunteer team, operating under the Environmental Protection and Education Hub (EPEHub) Project at the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), a recent Appreciation Night event was organised on 4^th July 2023 to celebrate their contributions towards advancing the green agenda at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The event took place at the Seminar Hall, Level 1, TORAY Building, USM. It was attended by the Tzu-Chi Society and Tzu-Chi Youth Collegiate Association, Penang, Malaysia.

Among the distinguished guests was Associate Professor Dr. Ng Theam Foo, representing CGSS Director, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafiei.

During his welcoming speech, Theam Foo emphasised the efforts in sustainable development and environmental protection programmes at USM. He highlighted how CGSS empowers the GA to carry out various meaningful programmes and activities both on and off-campus.

As the EPEHub Coordinator, Theam Foo expressed his gratitude for the contributions of the GA and Tzu-Chi volunteers towards increasing awareness and education about environmental protection and sustainability in the USM and surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, GA Advisor, Dr. Ying Chee Keat congratulated the GA members for their positive impact on the campus.

The event also included a session for sharing experiences and challenges faced by the GA programmes and activities, led by the GA Project Director, Keng Qing Le.

During this session, Keng expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the EPEHub team and GA members for their support and contributions to the successful implementation of many valuable programmes.

Commissioner of Tzu-Chi Society, EK Siow, shared his perspective on the commitment to promote and encourage the GA to work closely with the community and drive positive change to protect the environment.

“As we change, the culture will follow,” he added.

As a token of appreciation, the GA members received well-designed GA badges and certificates of appreciation.

The GA members were reminded of their mission to continue spreading awareness about environmental protection, ensuring that future generations can thrive in a sustainable and improved world.
