EXPLORING MORE VIABLE ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIPS: USM RECEIVED THE THIRD VISIT FROM ACADEMIC ATTACHÉ, EMBASSY OF LIBYA IN MALAYSIA
USM PENANG, 7 August 2023 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed today received a follow-up courtesy visit from the Academic Attaché, the Embassy of Libya in Malaysia, Professor Dr. Aiman Elmahmodi, at the USM Chancellory Building.
The aim of this third visit was to further discuss issues relating to the Libyan students' affairs, which included students' welfare, scholarship, and admission.
During the meeting, Abdul Rahman gave a brief overview regarding the enrollment and admission of international students in USM, as USM has the highest number of international students (6,232 as of December 2022) among the universities in Malaysia.
Following that, Aiman extended an opportunity to explore more viable potential collaborations of academic programmes between USM and several public universities in Libya, in the form of offshore programmes, research and innovation, mobility programmes, and other initiatives.
Among other items discussed were the extension of an opportunity for the offshore master's programme, which will be conducted at USM Sains@KL. Overall, the discussion between both parties was very fruitful.
As of now, USM has received a total of 101 students from Libya, and a collaboration has been established in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the USM School of Management and Sebha University, Libya.
Also present at the discussion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Professor Dr. Habibah A Wahab; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Industry, Community Network, and Institutional Sustainability, Professor Dr. Azlan Amran; Advisor of the Academic Attaché, Norhawaty Mansor; Director of USM International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC), Associate Professor Dr. Muhizam Mustafa; and the Dean of Institute Postgraduate Studies (IPS), Professor Dr. Azlan Abdul Aziz.
