USM PENANG, 3 August 2023 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students leading the first student-driven ASEAN Intervarsity Think Tank (iTank), marking the emergence of USM student leaders to nurture change in the ASEAN region.

Founded and directed by our student leader, Jeremy Lau Wei Han, from the USM Student Representative Council (MPPUSM), iTank strives to empower young changemakers to develop sustainable solutions for campus and institutional challenges.

“With over 300 participants over 30 tertiary institutions from ASEAN countries, iTank provides the key platform to address the vision of "A Sustainable Campus."

“iTank is an ecosystem of change, where the distinguished projects arising from the competition with the endorsement of collaborative industrial players will be formally presented and submitted as a memorandum to all partnering Universities and the esteemed Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia (MOHE), serving as compelling proposed solutions to further advance and enhance the higher education landscape,” explained Jeremy Lau. 

The iTank 2023 competition kicks off with its opening ceremony on 1st July 2023, and the journey culminates in the grand finale, held physically at the USM from 4th to 6th August 2023 for the Top 15 Finalists.

The Closing and Awards ceremony is to be officiated by Emeritus Professor Dato' Dr. Morshidi Sirat, the Higher Education Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, in representing the Minister of Higher Education at Dewan Budaya, USM on the 6th August from 11.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.

Attending alongside is Profesor Dr. Azlan Amran, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Students Development Affairs and Alumni.

With a total prize pool of RM5,000, iTank recognises the importance of the industry partners including Payments Network Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. also known as Paynet (Platinum Sponsor), and other partners including Digital Penang, TnB Malaysia, Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), Biji-biji Initiative as well as the panel of judges, mentors and sponsors.
