USM PENANG, 15 July 2023 – Final-year students from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Computer Sciences were celebrated today, as they mark the closing of their Project Innovation & Exploration in CS Education & Learning 2023 programme or PIXEL 2023, held recently at the USM main campus.

The Closing Inauguration Ceremony was graced with the presence of Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, YB Professor Dr. P. Ramasamy A/L Palanisamy.

In his speech, Ramasamy said that the students’ tireless efforts, innovative ideas and unwavering dedication have been duly acknowledged. The ceremony held serves as a testament to the journey that the students have undergone.

“Through PIXEL 2023, you have demonstrated not only your technical prowess but also your ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and envision a future where technology empowers and transforms lives,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Project Director, Then Tai Yu, expressed his deepest gratitude to the School of Computer Sciences staff for the support given in realising the project.

“The collaboration has been invaluable, and the lecturers have consistently provided assistance and guidance.

“The esteemed panel of judges too have been generous in contributing their time and expertise, in addition to the generous sponsors, who have played a pivotal role in the success of this event,” he said.

The Dean of the School of Computer Sciences, Professor Dato’ Dr. Bahari Belaton said, “PIXEL 2023 has provided the students with a podium, a medium, and a platform for them to showcase their years of hard work, dedication and innovation.”

“It has allowed the final-year undergraduates to stimulate their analytical skills and create optimal solutions through innovations in dealing with real-world challenges,” he said.  

Bahari added that it is truly astounding to witness how these young tech-changemakers were able to implement their proposed solutions and present their innovative ideas to the audience.”

“I believe throughout this event, the students have greatly benefitted from constructive feedbacks and evaluations from experts in both the corporate and academic spheres,” he said.

Also present in this programme were the Member of Dewan Negara (Senate), YB Senator Dr. Lingeshwaran a/l Dato' Seri R. Arunasalam; Head of Learning and Development of Fusionex Group, Kok Jun Sern; Advisor of Computer Science Society, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Sufril Azlan; and Lecturer cum Head of Committee, PIXEL 2023, Associate Professor Mohd Azam Osman.
