USM, HIFA CHINA SIGN MoU TO BROADEN THE SCOPE OF ARTS, CULTURE AND DESIGN
USM PENANG, 13 July 2023 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of USM with Hubei Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA), China to collaborate on a shared vision between the two institutions in fostering academic excellence, promoting cultural understanding, and nurturing creative talents.
HIFA, a prestigious institution of higher education in China specialising in fine arts and design, was represented by its Vice President, Professor Dr. Cheng Zhili.
Addressing the audience at the signing ceremony, Abdul Rahman said, with this MoU, both institutions will engage in student exchange, joint academic and research initiatives, as well as sharing of resources and facilities.
“Through these collaborations, we hope to broaden the scope of the arts, culture, and creativity fields in both countries, and I believe the USM School of The Arts would contribute their expertise and knowledge, providing their best effort in ensuring the success of this partnership,” he added.
Echoing the sentiments, Cheng said, “The coming together of HIFA and USM will provide valuable opportunities for cultural immersion, artistic exposure, and the development of collaborative and innovative projects that will benefit both institutions.”
Also present as witnesses to the signing ceremony were the School of The Arts Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Sarena Abdullah; and HIFA Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Professor Dr. Rui Li.
Among other guests present were the Director of USM International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC), Associate Professor Dr. Muhizam Mustafa; and representatives of Uni Global International Management Sdn. Bhd.
