USM EXTENDS BIRTHDAY WISH TO PENANG TYT YANG DI-PERTUA NEGERI AND WISHES ALL PENANGITES HAPPY GEORGE TOWN WORLD HERITAGE DAY
USM PENANG, 8 July 2023 – All community members of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today extend their birthday wish to the TYT Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang on his 74th birthday.
Extending the wish via the USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, the communities pray for Tun to have a blissful and long life, and for the state of Penang to continue its growth and to be prosperous under the patronage of Tun.
Ahmad Fuzi, 74, was born in Sungai Bakap on mainland Penang and entered the administrative and diplomatic service in 1972, and had also served in various capacities, including as the Secretary-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2009.
The USM main campus on Penang island, which TYT Tun had also visited on few occasions, is among the main public institutions of higher learning that proudly stands after it was established in 1969.
In having both celebrations one after another, the USM Vice-Chancellor and its communities would like to wish everyone Happy George Town World Heritage Day 2023, on the 7th of July and celebrated by the people of Penang every year.
The celebration marks the time when the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) designated Georgetown as a World Heritage Site in Penang since 2008.
The recognition acknowledges the presence of well-restored and re-adapted traditional and cultural elements, coupled with Western influences in the Georgetown landscape, and to commemorate and celebrate the acknowledgement, the Penang State Government has announced that 7th of July every year as a public holiday.
