USM CLIMBED TO SECOND SPOT IN MALAYSIA, #137 IN THE WORLD FOR 2024 QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
USM PENANG, 28 June 2023 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) improved its position in the QS World University Rankings 2024 when it moved up 6 places to position 137 from position 143 last year.
The proudest thing is that USM has managed to rank second in Malaysia from its fourth position last year.
This also highlights how USM portray its uniqueness to stand out from other universities not only in Malaysia, but globally through its innovative practices.
USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed said, as the sole APEX university in the country, it is understood that such an achievement is a boost for the university that aims to inspire its students and staff to be part of a generation of leaders who would shape a world highlighting the USM name.
“This demonstrates that the APEX (Accelerated Programme for Excellence) status granted to USM has been realised through the vision of 'Transforming Higher Education for a Sustainable Tomorrow' and the motto, "Kami Memimpin" (We Lead),” he added.
The QS World University Rankings 2024 is the largest ranking exercise, with 1,503 institutions ranked, up from 1,418 institutions last year.
This year, QS has introduced three new metrics which are Sustainability, Employment Outcomes and International Research Network, and recalibrated the weighting of certain existing indicators, namely Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, and Faculty Student Ratio.
