USM, QATAR UNIVERSITY SIGN MoU FOR JOINT COOPERATION IN PHARMACY, HEALTH SCIENCES AND BUSINESS ANALYTICS
USM PENANG, 25 June 2023 – In a great step toward strengthening academic ties and fostering collaboration in the field of pharmacy, health sciences and business analytics, Qatar University (QU) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 June 2023.
This significant agreement marks the commitment of both institutions to enhance their academic programs, facilitate research collaboration, and promote knowledge exchange for the betterment of society.
The MOU was signed by Dr. Asma Al-Thani, Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences, representing QU, and Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, representing USM. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, Dr. Feras Alali, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, and officials from both parties.
This significant agreement aims to promote and enhance relations between the two institutions and facilitate joint cooperation in various scientific, administrative, technical, and research areas.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation and sets the stage for joint initiatives aimed at advancing academic, scientific, administrative, technical, and research endeavors.
Through this collaboration, both QU and USM envision a fruitful partnership that will contribute to the overall development of the pharmaceutical, health sciences and business analytics sectors in their respective countries.
By providing opportunities for learning experiences and knowledge sharing, the universities aim to nurture and produce highly skilled professionals who can contribute significantly to the healthcare sector.
Dr. Feras Alali, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating, “Today marks a significant milestone as we forge a powerful alliance with USM. This MoU solidifies QU commitment to fostering academic collaboration, innovation and excellence.”
“QU Health and Pharmacy will spearhead the efforts between the two institutions. Together, we will inspire transformative advancements that shape the future of education and drive positive societal impact,” he said.
For his part, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor of USM, expressed his optimism, stating, “Thank you for hosting us today to sign this MOU. This MOU opens up exciting opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange between QU and USM.
“Together, we will advance the field of pharmacy and health sciences, contributing to the betterment of healthcare and promoting academic excellence,” he said.
The scope of cooperation on academic and research activities includes undergraduate and graduate student internships, the exchange of publications and research materials, joint projects related to research and teaching, and faculty development.
The MoU recognizes the significant role played by ministries and government entities in serving the country and society.
By exchanging information and experience, both parties seek to enhance their performance according to comprehensive quality standards and in alignment with the prevailing laws and regulations of their respective countries.
