USM, ITS LAUNCH COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROGRAMME TO EMPOWER FUTURE SCHOLARS
SURABAYA, INDONESIA, 12 June 2023 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) have successfully launched the USM-ITS Research Student Enrichment Programme (RSEP) 2023.
Aligned with USM’s Accelerated Programme for Excellence (APEX) agenda, the programme aims to empower students by fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and promoting cultural exchange.
A group of 21 final-year and postgraduate students from various schools and centres in USM were selected to participate in this programme which offers various workshops and interactive sessions led by experienced researchers.
The programme’s ultimate aim is to inspire students to become leaders in their respective fields and make significant research contributions.
USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed is enthusiastic about the programme and encourages students to take full advantage of this opportunity.
“With the launch of the USM-ITS RSEP, USM reaffirms its dedication to fostering research potential and promoting academic excellence.
“The joint programme not only showcases the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and the APEX agenda but also establishes valuable networks for the participating students,” he said, in a pre-recorded speech.
He therefore urges them to actively participate in discussions and connect with their peers and mentors, and leverage on the programme as a stepping stone towards advancing knowledge and creating a better future.
Meanwhile, the School of Distance Education Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Zulnaidi Yaacob believes that the activities pertaining to the programme will help students broaden their knowledge and gain valuable international exposure.
“Besides, the programme also encourages students to think globally and take responsibility for sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ goals for a better future.
“I am confident that the collaboration between the USM School of Distance Education and the ITS International Office would ensure the success of the programme and open doors for more future academic and research opportunities,” he added.
