KUALA SEPETANG, 8 June 2023 – A recent collaboration between the Exco for Sustainability and Culture of Majllis Penghuni Desasiswa Jaya Lembaran Utama (MPDJLU), the Division of Students Development Affairs & Alumni (BHEPA) and the Perak State Forestry Department had led to a successful organisation of a programme called ‘Save Our Earth’.

The programme took place on 28 May 2023 at the Larut Matang Eco Learning Centre, Kuala Sepetang and a total of 65 students from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus were involved in planting the mangrove saplings after a brief overview given by Abu Bakar Mat Saad about the swamp forests.

The Project Director, Nurul Muyassarah Abdul Karim, 22, said that she was very happy with the success of the programme, at the same time was overwhelmed with the commitment given by all the participants involved.

“I am so grateful with the idea of them willing to sacrifice their weekend and making time together with the rest of participants to ensure the event was successful,” said Muyassarah, a 3rd year student at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

“I hope that more programmes like this will be conducted in the future.

“The programme was not only able to create awareness among current generation especially students about the importance of loving nature, but it could also educate them in preserving the greenery of our country,” she added.

The main objective of the programme was to support the government's initiative in conserving flora, namely the Penghijauan Malaysia Programme through the 100 million Tree Planting Campaign.
