USM AMONGST CONSORTIUM OF MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITIES (CMU) FOR COLLABORATION OF MALAYSIAN AND TURKISH AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES
KUALA LUMPUR, 7 April 2023 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked today between ten Universities under the Consortium of Malaysian Universities (CMU) with Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), TUSAS Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and TUSAS Akademi.
The MoU was signed by Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya and Chairman of CMU; Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Zakri Abdul Hamid, Joint Chairman of MIGHT; Mohd Shahiman Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of TUSAS Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; and Professor Dr. Ahmet Pinarbasi, President of TUSAS Akademi.
With the rapid expansion of technology, it is anticipated that the collaboration between Malaysia-Turkiye universities via this MoU will facilitate the utilisation of each other's strengths, reducing learning curves and time to market. This synergy will also motivate the growth of specialised areas for every university, aligning with their envisioned future.
According to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, this is one of the best networking agenda in the country that focuses on the reputable and excellent research capability by outstanding students of each university that will benefit from the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), especially in areas of student and academic staff mobility in the industrial or related fields, and joint research activities between Malaysia and Republic of Türkiye.
The consortium comprises of ten universities, namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).
Turkish Aerospace is in Malaysia to stay and aiming to be a Top 10 Global Aerospace Company. This MoU serves as a platform to support the need for competent talents to realise this vision and to anchor its presence in this country.
“Coupled with access to TUSAS Akademi in Ankara, Turkiye which is headed by Professor Dr. Ahmet Pinarbasi, it will further enrich and speed up the learning process of the CMU students and lecturers in aerospace technologies," said Mohd Shahiman, the CEO of TUSAS Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
The MoU signing was also witnessed by Dato' Dr. Haji Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), Ministry of Higher Education representing the Higher Education Minister and His Excellency (H.E.) Emir Salim Yüksel, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Malaysia.
