USM PENANG, 13 Februari 2023 – We could surely remember incidences of buildings collapsing, people buried under tons of rubble and the search for survivors amidst the ruins in the early morning of Monday, 6 February 2023 recently.

The large earthquake that devastated middle and south of Turkiye and north Syria was the strongest ever recorded in the history of Turkiye and Syria, which had resulted in major destructions and countless deaths in Southeast Turkiye and Syria.

It was reported that there were more than 24,000 deaths; 20,000 in Turkiye and 4,000 in Syria.

As part of the global community, we share our deep empathy on the calamity that had befallen both countries and it is only appropriate that we offer relief in any form necessary to assist the two countries.

USM sympathises and is urging all campus community members to contribute any amount to be extended to the relevant authorities or parties that are authorised to receive the contributions.
