STUDENTS CELEBRATE CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT FUSE INTERNATIONAL NIGHT ON CAMPUS
USM PENANG, 20 December 2022 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) via the International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC) today held the 4th FUSE International Night, a programme that introduces and promotes multicultural diversity from various countries and which involves the USM international students.
Held at Tasik Aman in the campus, the theme for this year's event is 'The Floral Conquest', having the aim of gathering all local and international students together, allowing them to blend into a group representing different cultures and backgrounds, and in a setting where they can interact and understand each other better.
Included in the event was the cultural booths consisting of a few European countries, bonfire setting, and performances by local and international students in showcasing their cultural dances.
The event was organised by the USM Student Buddies, supervised by IMCC. Present at the event was the Director of IMCC, Aizat Hisham Ahmad.
According to Aizat, “USM acknowledges and embraces the importance of diversity in today’s world and provide community experiences for a diverse campus life among its students.”
“Diversity prepares students to have a global mindset, and allows them to be comfortable in working and interacting with a variety of individuals of all nationalities.
“We create opportunities and lay the groundwork for students from various backgrounds and nationalities to organise programmes such as this to enable them to learn and grow, share experiences, expand their awareness, welcome multiple perspectives, and help build social skills,” he added.
Currently USM has nearly 6,000 international students coming from 80 countries, whereby 26% are undergraduate students and 74% are postgraduate students.
