USM ACADEMIC RECOGNISED FOR EXCELLENT CONTRIBUTION ON ANTARCTIC RESEARCH
USM PENANG, 5 Nov. 2022 – Congratulations to Dr. Faradina Merican Mohamed Sidik Merican from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Biological Sciences, who received the Polar Education and Communication award last month from Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation (Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan Mizan, YPASM).
She was among the five local university researchers who were given recognition with a medal recently in conjunction with the dinner to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the YPASM.
The Antarctica YPASM medal is awarded to Malaysian citizens in recognition of excellence in achievements or innovations, and sustained commitment to communicating Antarctic research, making significant contribution to educating the next generation of Antarctic researchers, or in contributing towards building new capacity in Malaysia’s Polar initiatives and having a significant record of achievement in terms of the quality, effectiveness and creativity of their engagement.
The medals were awarded according to four (4) categories, namely National Antarctica Leader; Excellence in Antarctica Research; Young Polar Scientist; and Polar Education & Communication.
The National Antarctica Leaders Medals were awarded by the Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Al-WathiquBillah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, the Sultan of Terengganu, while other medals were awarded by the Minister of Environment and Water, YB Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man at the Ceremonial Dinner Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation (YPASM) in Kuala Lumpur, on 18 October 2022.
Also present at the dinner, the YAB Menteri Besar of Terengganu, as the Chairman of the YPASM Board of Trustees.
