3 CS UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS CELEBRATED FOR WINNING FIRST PRIZE IN HUAWEI ICT GLOBAL COMPETITION 2021-2022
USM PENANG, 17 Aug 2022 – In supporting the growth of ICT talents, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today held a gathering to honour and celebrate three students from the School of Computer Sciences, as the First Prize Winners of The Huawei ICT Competition Global Final under the Practical Competition of Network Track for 2021-2022.
The team was led by its advisor, Ts. Dr. Mohd Najwadi Yusoff and consists of instructors from the School of Computer Sciences and the National Advanced IPv6 Centre (NAv6), along with three undergraduate students who also come from School of Computer Sciences, namely Ang Yee Teng, Kang Yi Qing and Sum Joe Ming.
The competition was aimed at providing students with a platform to compete healthily and exchange idea, thus enhancing their ICT knowledge and practical skills, as well as in increasing their ability to innovate by using different technologies and platforms.
This year's competition comprised three competitions, namely Practice, Innovation and Industry, and which has attracted 150,000 students from more than 2,000 universities in 85 countries and regions around the world.
According to USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan, based on the period of being part of the Huawei ICT Academy programme, it was found that the programme provided extensive benefits to USM with the direct support received from Huawei, opportunities to offer students a globally-recognised industry training and certification, while strengthening links with the industry technology through a common knowledge-sharing platform.
“We hope that USM will continue to sustain collaborations with Huawei Malaysia, and we will always support any programme under Huawei ICT Academy that will be beneficial to our students,” he said.
Meanwhile, Huawei Talent Ecosystem Manager, Astee Chan Poh Ting in her speech said that they are very happy that USM was one of the earlier considered pioneers in the programme that produced a lot of talents.
“We hoped to strengthen our link with USM for future collaborations in terms of internship placements and job opportunities with Huawei as well,” said Astee.
USM had officially signed an agreement with Huawei ICT Academy on 1st July 2018, with USM being one of the first universities in Malaysia to sign this agreement.
Also present were the USM School of Computer Sciences Dean, Professor Dato’ Dr. Bahari Belaton; and the Human Resources Specialist Huawei – APAC Recruitment and Allocation Huawei Malaysia, Ho Jia Yun.
