USM SIGNS COLLABORATION AGREEMENT WITH DIGITAL PENANG TO ENHANCE DIGITAL ECONOMY INITIATIVES
USM PENANG, 27 July 2022 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently signed a Collaboration Agreement (CA) with Penang state-owned business entity, Digital Penang to enhance efforts in establishing digital communities among the people.
This is also to facilitate USM in conducting a PITCH@USM programme through a sponsorship of RM50,000 with the aim of encouraging the growth of new creative and innovative ideas among the students and staff of USM.
PITCH@USM is the latest platform for students and staff of USM to present their new ideas and innovations in the way they do things, especially in entrepreneurship and the development of “deep technology” products or social enterprise.
Students are requested to present creative ideas in solving a problem, ways to come up with a solution, impact of the solution, the continuity of the idea and the lasting impact that were presented.
In the first edition of PITCH@USM, 11 submissions were received and 5 were shortlisted by the jury, comprising of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Digital Penang, Tony Yeoh; Upsilon Holdings Investment Director, Kevin Tan and founder of Athens Holdings, Anja Juliah.
The CA was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan in representing USM, together with the Director of Agile Solutions, Alfonso Johan on behalf of Digital Penang.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Development Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dr. Azlinda Azman and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability and Institutional Development), Professor Dr. Md. Roslan Hashim; Chairperson of PITCH@USM, Associate Professor Dr. Tan Jun Jie; and Amira Hasnul Jamal from Digital Penang.
