USM PENANG, 13 June 2022 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with AGCO GSI (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. today, which focuses on consultancy, training and innovation in agriculture.

The agreement was signed by USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed (representing the Vice-Chancellor), together with the Managing Director, AGCO GSI (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd., Goh Bak Yan and witnessed by the Director of Industry Network, Division of Industry & Community Network USM, Dr. Shaizatulaqma Kamalul Ariffin, and the Finance & Admin Director, AGCO GSI (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd., Josephine Kuan.

Via the MoA, both parties have agreed to work hand in hand and explore opportunities which focuses on consultancy, innovations in agriculture and training in their respective fields of expertise, thus creating synergistic benefits to both parties.

During the ceremony, Abdul Rahman said, “This collaboration targets the interconnection between sustainable high-tech solutions and innovations in the agriculture industry.

“Several collaboration efforts has been made that focused on measuring ventilation performance in the farm houses, introducing innovations as solutions in the poultry farm and designing an IoT monitoring system to sense and detect the medication liquid volume data and time taken in administering medication for each farmhouse using suitable sensors,” he said.

According to Goh, “For the past 20 years, AGCO has been distributing and helping with the farming equipment which are high-tech solutions globally, and also for the last two years, AGCO has also established two manufacturing companies in Europe, managing farming robots and many more.”

“I hope that this MoA will pave the way for future scientific collaboration and cooperation, and further boost the university-industry cooperation, and scientific and technological innovation on both sides,” he added.
