USM DVC (A&I) RECEIVES COURTESY VISIT FROM ROMANIA AMBASSADOR FOR FUTURE PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATION
PENANG, 16 February 2022 – The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dato’ Dr. Narimah Samat today received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of Romania to Malaysia, Her Excellency Mrs. Nineta Bărbulescu at The Bricks @ Siswaniaga USM.
The aim of this visit is to provide insights into the collaboration with USM in areas of academic (Erasmus Plus grant), research and innovation, mobility programmes and branding & positioning, in order to enhance and increase the number of students from Romania and also the possibility of having student exchange programmes.
Narimah was happy to welcome Her Excellency and to receive the courtesy visit from the Romanian Ambassador.
At the same meeting, the Director of USM International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC), Aizat Hisham Ahmad presented on the university profile, background, achievements and facilities provided for both local and international students.
“With regard to the EU (European Union), we are working closely with our institution through the Erasmus programme and we hope we could also be able to capture the same with the Romanian institutions,” he said.
Aizat Hisham also highlighted on the HEBAT values instilled in students through its programmes and introduced USMi (USM International) or also known as ‘Kawan’ programme to Her Excellency.
Following that, Ninenta gave an overview on how the presence of the Romanian embassy may serve to facilitate cooperation in relation to education which involves mobility and scholarship programme, as well as other opportunities.
Her Excellency was very happy with her maiden visit, stepping into USM and she said she would like to see more opportunities established between Romania and USM.
We hope that this cooperation will further strengthen the bilateral relations between USM and Romania.
Her Excellency was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Dan Cristian Bărbulescu. Also present were the Director of USM Strategic Corporate Development Office, Muhammad Sabri Said; lecturer from the School of Biological Sciences, Professor Dr. K. Sudesh Kumar C. Kanapathi Pillai; officers from the USM Academic and International Division; and Romanian PhD student from the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation (SOLLAT), Spatariu Catalin.
