THE PROJECTION MAPPING EXPERIENCE@MGTF: HOW NICE IF WE COULD BE THERE
USM PENANG, 21 January 2022 – What if you can share stories on the wall of a building in the form of projection mapping?
Projection mapping is one way of telling stories by using an empty wall of a building to project images related to a certain issue or topic.
The Tuanku Fauziah Museum and Gallery (MGTF) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently held the second show of the AL-HILAL exterior open wall projection, featuring ‘The Reckoner’ short film by Anderson Ee, which engages the audience through 3D holography.
Held in a hybrid manner via live and as well as online through Facebook@MGTFUSM, the show was an initiative by MGTF to connect and reach the audience, especially students as its intention is to have a present a meaningful experience beyond the limiting confines of online classes.
MGTF Director, Associate Professor Hasnul Jamal Saidon said, “We want them to be able to sense the great vibes of the campus and the amazing natural surroundings, embracing Mother Nature.”
He hoped that by attending the show, it could help students to take a break, chill and relax while reflecting and enjoying their campus life by appreciating their blessings in life.
He further added that there is a plan to run AL-HILAL again in the near future, by putting on a better improved and professional live coverage, as the show is meant to be experienced and enjoyed live on site.
“MGTF USM welcomes potential partners and communities inside and outside USM to design experience through co-creation method and projection mapping. We look forward to sharing narratives and research findings that are pertinent to our shared global concerns,” he said.
The projection mapping event also featured the soft closing of ‘Project Monyet’, an exhibition on primates showcasing the drawings themed 'Monkey Moments' by Ghazally Ismail, and also selected works by Hasnul and Ahnaf Hakimi Ahmad that were presented during the show.
