USM TO HOST AICCE’22 - SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCY: RE-ENGINEERING THE FUTURE

NIBONG TEBAL, 12 August 2021 -- The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Civil Engineering (PPKA) will be hosting the upcoming AWAM International Conference in Civil Engineering (AICCE) 2022 in Penang, Malaysia on 15-17 February 2022 virtually.

According to Senior Lecturer, PPKA, Dr. Mohamad Fared Murshed, following the success of the previous AICCE in 2019, this AICCE’22 will provide another platform for academics and industries internationally for future collaboration opportunities.

“AICCE’22 is part of the flagship conference series of the School of Civil Engineering, USM and will be focusing on “SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCY: RE-ENGINEERING THE FUTURE” as the theme,” he said.

He added, sustainability and resiliency are key concepts to new approaches in urban development. In recent years, the integrated use of sustainability and resiliency concepts in engineering are becoming more pronounced as a response to the increasing environmental threats due to climate changes and natural disasters.

“The application of sustainability and integration of resiliency are important to support and develop natural and built environments in a robust and enduring way.

“Therefore, the AICCE’22 aims to bring together academics, scientists, engineers, research scholars, government officials, practitioners and learned individuals from multi-disciplines to present and discuss the most recent research, innovations, trends and concerns, practical challenges encountered as well as engineering solutions adopted in the built environment,” he said.

Furthermore, the conference also aspires to advocate the integrated use of these key concepts in the natural and built environments, and endeavours towards re-engineering a better future.

All accepted papers in AICCE’22 will be blind peer-reviewed and published in SCOPUS indexed conference proceedings (details of the publication will be announced soon in the conference website).

The USM School of Civil Engineering (PPKA), was established in 1989, and since then PPKA has organised numerous seminars, conferences and short courses.

These activities have encouraged and contributed towards the creation of knowledge, innovativeness and exchange of ideas.

To date PPKA has successfully organised five national level conferences (AWAM’99, AWAM’01, AWAM’04, AWAM’07 and AWAM’09) and three AWAM International Conferences on Civil Engineering (AICCE) in collaboration with other reputable partners, among which were Geohazard Information Zonation (GIZ) for AICCE-GIZ’12, Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for eco-AICCE’15, Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) for IGNITE-AICCE’17, and another collaboration with CIDB for AICCE’19.
