The first-time programme is set to begin early or by the middle of this year and will benefit some 2,500 USM staff who qualify for the DHA milk nutritional aid.

The programme is one out of the 12 new initiatives introduced by the USM Vice-Chancellor and the Top Management, in the move to further empower the efforts under the Talent Management and Wellbeing category in 2021 and involving a specialised budget allocation from the university.

The Registry Department and Pusat Sejahtera USM (Health Centre) have been tasked to coordinate and implement the programme, and assisted by a few other PTJs (departments).

According to the Director of Pusat Sejahtera USM, Dr. Normala Abdul Wahid, the programme is meant to instil the habit of drinking milk from an early age and to continue the habit among the children of the staff, which could assist in both their physical and mental development processes, simultaneously allowing them to grow strong and healthy.

“Aside from that, this programme is hoped to ease the financial burden of the B10/B20/B40 staff in providing daily sustenance of DHA milk that is full of nutrition for their children,” she said, when interviewed through email by MPRC recently.

Explained Dr. Normala further, although this programme is being held for the first time, she is confident that the allocation set aside for the programme will be well-spent and that the programme will achieve its desired objectives, while ensuring the wellbeing of the staff and their families.
