USM ‘KAMPri’ PROGRAMME FOCUSES ON VOLUNTEERISM FOR THE FUTURE

PENANG, 25 November 2020 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently witnessed the pre-launch ceremony of the KAMI PRIHATIN (KAMPri) "Coaching and Equipping Malaysia's Future Leader to Discover and Pursue Their Fullest Potential" programme.

The programme was aimed at providing training to approximately 400 KAMPri volunteers who participated in the programme.

In his officiating speech, USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Development Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dr. Aldrin Abdullah said that it was his second involvement in this programme, which was run fully by a group of volunteers of world-class standards, and having a wide experience in coaching and volunteerism activities.

He added that this year, clearly the challenge was to hold the programme online, in addition to the ones coming up later in the series.

He congratulated and extended his utmost appreciation to those involved in the programme.

“I hope that our students would also take this opportunity to realise the USM HEBAT agenda within the context of personal and self-development, the ability to articulate and communicate well up to world standards and could secure opportunities to expand their talents wherever it may be,“ added Aldrin.

The programme was held in view of the need to further improve students’ future potentials. One of the main competencies needed in the future is the capability of the individual to understand cross-cultural relations and the ability to adapt to various communities in the world, as they face the challenges and in order to be more competitive at the global level.

This programme, which has also received support from industry volunteers, has been conducted for the past five years, and which brings the opportunity to students to better understand their potential.

Universiti Sains Malaysia, as the sole APEX University in the country continues to support various activities relating to volunteerism especially those involving students, aside from the University staff.

This is in line with the efforts of the United Nations (UN) in fulfilling the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) towards creating a globally sustainable future.

International Volunteer Day 2020 (IVD2020) is celebrated every year on 5 December. The theme for this year is “Together We Can Through Volunteering”.

Celebrations will be organised at various levels the world over (most likely held online this year due to the pandemic) as one of the activities that would fulfil the aim towards achieving a more sustainable future globally.
