SOLIDARITY AMONG CAMPUSES TO CURB COVID-19 - HEALTH CAMPUS RECEIVES PPE AND HAND SANITISERS SHIPMENT FROM MAIN AND ENGINEERING CAMPUS
USM KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 20 April 2020 – The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Health Campus here recently received a shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand sanitisers contributed by the USM Main Campus on Penang Island and the Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal.
The shipment was delivered by the head of USM COVID-19 Nerve Centre, Zulkifli Che Hussin together with his team, and on hand to receive the shipment on behalf of the Health Campus was its director, Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sukari Halim.
Ahmad Sukari said the contribution, comprising of 1,500 face shields, 15 aerosol boxes, cartons of hand sanitisers and transparent plastics, was timely indeed and essential in meeting the needs of the healthcare workers working tirelessly on the front lines at the Hospital USM here.
“We thank the PTJs (Schools and Research Centres) from the Main and Engineering Campuses that have donated and we are tremendously grateful for their contributions,” he said, while adding that it is an evidence of the solidarity and sharing among campuses being displayed.
For the record, the hand sanitisers were contributed by the Analytical Biochemistry Research Centre (ABrC) headed by its Director, Professor Dr. Zafarina Zainuddin; aerosol boxes donated by outsiders and several Schools from the Engineering Campus; face shields sponsored by the Division of Industry and Community Network (BJIM) and produced by several Engineering Schools under the coordination of the Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Profesor Ir. Dr. Mohd Fadzil Ain; and the transparent plastics contributed by the Division of Student Development Affairs and Alumni (BHEPA).
Ahmad Sukari added, “I would also like to personally thank Zulkifli and his team for their gallant effort in making the six-hour drive through the East West Highway to deliver the shipment to the door step of the Health Campus.”
Meanwhile Zulkifli, who is also fondly known as Abe Yoh to the campus community, thanked the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for their cooperation in granting permission to USM to make this inter-state travelling possible during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
